A graphic designer, advertising art director, and became a fashion designer. Silvio Chan is known for his avant-garde ideas. He experimentals with novel concepts, unusual colour combination and unconventional silhouettes, earning him great popularity among the bold and the daring. Besides local presentations such as Hong Kong Fashion Week, Chan has been also invited internationally including Tokyo Fashion Week(1999), Australian Fashion Week(2000) and New York Fashion Week(2001). With a master's degree in fashion design from London's Royal College of Arts, Chan also teaches at Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Design. His arts background and his strong individual style are best expressed through the costumes and stage designs he did for various art performances, most notable being the numerous works ofthe Hong Kong City Dance Company. To facilitate creative exchanges between artists with the same conviction and beliefs, Chan set up the Alternatif Fashion Workshop.The workshop provides various creative services, from fashion designand costume design to graphics and photography,and aims to nurture design talents of the next generation.
